Used Book Donations

There are now two ways to donate books to the Friends at the West Branch of the Mooresville Public Library at 614 Brawley School Road.

If you have a small number of books, you can drop them off any time the library is open by placing them in the appropriate used book drop off bins next to the used book sale shelves. There are two bins — one for adult books and one for children’s books.

If you have a large number of books, they should be dropped off on the staffed drop off dates at the rear dock. Books are only accepted on certain dates and times as noted on the upcoming events calendar on this page. Please check the calendar before trying to bring books to donate to the library. We update the drop off dates and times as we are able to confirm volunteers. If you don’t see any drop off dates, please check back later. You will not be able to donate books outside of these time slots. The library staff does not accept donations. Donations should not be put in the book return or left outside the library.

When you arrive to donate your books during one of the scheduled windows, you will drive around the building and turn into the loading dock lane on the left just past the drive through window. DO NOT BLOCK the drive through lane. Signs will guide you from the front of the building to the loading dock. If the loading dock is not open, please knock on the door for help.

We are only accepting recent books (roughly the past 5 years, but older if classics) in good or better condition and in the following categories: Hardback fiction, Hardback Non-fiction, all Children’s books, Audio books, Large paperbacks. NOW ACCEPTING PUZZLES.

We Will Not Accept old books, books in poor condition, textbooks, cookbooks, reference books, magazines, CDs, Records, DVDs, trade paperbacks (small ones like you might pick up in an airport), or tutorials.

Donors will receive a acknowledgement form they can use for tax purposes.

A selection of the used books is on shelving on the left near the library entrance. We request that you make a $2 donation for adult each book you take. Donations for children’s books are at your complete discretion. There is a cash box on the left end of the shelving or you can pay via credit card by scanning the QR code on the sign at the shelves. The library staff will not make change. We are holding staffed book sales of recent best sellers as donations permit. These sales will be announced in the Race City Reads newsletter as well as on this website and on our Facebook page.
