The FOLM is currently focused on building a volunteer pool and on fundraising, both in support of library programming.
Used Book Sale – we are restarting used book donations and re-sale and need volunteers to staff the acceptance of used book donations at the West Side Branch Library. We are currently targeting 3 hour shifts on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons.
Roaming Race City Readers – this is a new program which will begin later this year. The Friends will be joining small businesses in Mooresville once a month with roving book groups that will be hosted at local establishments to read and discuss a book(or books) that has some connection to each business while also learning from the proprietor why they opened their shop and about their products. More detail will be available once the details are finalized.
Supporting Teachers and Children — This past year we gave away over 1400 books to teachers in the local school systems (both Mooresville and Iredell) to help them build their classroom libraries. We donated over 1600 books to the local book bank (Promising Pages) who does similar work for Teachers and Families. We hope to partner with them going forward to continue to get books to our teachers and families. This is a project we are working on in 2025 to replace the Children’s book swap.
Library Program Support — examples would include Local Author’s Showcase and the Summer Reading Program. We also sponsor Race City Reads, the Mooresville Library’s monthly email programing newsletter which has nearly 4000 subscribers of which over 66% read it monthly!
We are currently seeking volunteers for the following programs:
Home Bound Book Delivery — Similar to a Meals-On-Wheels program, the library through volunteers would deliver books to Homebound individuals and Nursing Home residents. Volunteers would use their own cars.
Literacy — Volunteers would work with students at the library to improve reading and comprehension.
Tutors — Volunteers are needed for all grade levels in all subjects for tutoring. Tutoring would take place at the library.
You do not need to join the FOLM to volunteer for these programs. You will need to be approved by the town of Mooresville to participate. Please contact us for more information.
